Historical Introdution

Pompeii
It is known worldwide for the famous explosion of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 CE. The humane catastrophe buried the city completely, but preserved an extraordinary testimony of the lifestyle of that time. In fact, only in Pompeii and Herculaneum, it is possible to make a real leap in time.
Ercolano
The excavations are less extensive, but better preserved. This is because the ancient city during the explosion in 79 CE, was not buried by lapilli as Pompeii, but was directly covered by a 15 meters of pyroclastic material and hot mud that ran from the volcano.
Il Vesuvio
It is among the most popular volcanoes in the world, its destructive power has spoken a lot about itself in the past. In fact, the eruption of 79 CE it is the most famous of the known eruptions, but also the first written testimony of a volcanic eruption. It could be said that volcanology was born at the foot of this mountain.
